McSorley's Old Ale House, NYCs oldest Irish pub, is steeped in history

mcsorleys old ale house

Coins are dropped in soup bowls—one for nickels, one for dimes, one for quarters, and one for halves—and bills are kept in a rosewood cashbox. It is a drowsy place; the bartenders never make a needless move, the customers nurse their mugs of ale, and the three clocks on the walls have not been in agreement for many years. The backbone of the clientele, however, is a rapidly thinning group of crusty old men, predominantly Irish, who have been drinking there since they were youths and now have a proprietary feeling toward the place.

Lee & Rick’s Oyster Bar

Many photographs of him are in existence, and it is obvious that he had a lot of unassumed dignity. He patterned his saloon after a public house he had known in Ireland and originally called it the Old House at Home; around 1908 the signboard blew down, and when he ordered a new one he changed the name to McSorley’s Old Ale House. That is still the official name; customers never have called it anything but McSorley’s. Old John believed it impossible for men to drink with tranquillity in the presence of women; there is a fine back room in the saloon, but for many years a sign was nailed on the street door, saying, “Notice. When other women came in, Old John would hurry forward, make a bow, and say, “Madam, I’m sorry, but we don’t serve ladies.” This technique is still used.

Five hidden secrets of McSorley’s Old Ale House

mcsorleys old ale house

He unlocked the saloon at seven, swept it out himself, and spread sawdust on the floor. Until he became too feeble to manage a racing sulky, he always kept a horse and a nanny goat in a stable around the corner on St. Mark’s Place. He kept both animals in the same stall, believing, like many horse-lovers, that horses should have company at night. During the lull in the afternoon a stable-hand would lead the horse around to a hitching block in front of the saloon, and Old John, wearing his bar apron, would stand on the curb and groom the animal.

Cooper Square

When building his saloon, McSorley’s wish was to create an atmosphere in which mirrored that of his Irish culture. During the time of the saloon’s construction, many immigrants were coming over seas. In doing so, New York City began to see many immigrants bringing pieces of their culture with them, and McSorley was committed to making his culture stick through the development of his saloon. McSorley’s saloon coupled with other immigrant developments and created the first signs of diversity amongst New York City. Spending eternity at McSorley’s isn’t an option available to everyone.

The bartender who served me was Irish, making for an even more authentic experience.

Quenching the thirsts of everyone from Abraham Lincoln to the lower denizens of the Bowery since 1854, John McSorley served his own beer in orders of two distinctive small glasses, with the only option being whether you chose light or dark. I could have spent hours looking at every piece of art and history, and it made me feel a sense of pride in my Irish heritage. It felt as if I were in a living time capsule, surrounded by people who were there for a great time in one of the most historic spots in the city. Entering McSorley's feels like a trip back in time, and there are signs of its history all around.

Some of these veterans clearly remember John McSorley, the founder, who died in 1910 at the age of eighty-seven. They refer to him as Old John, and they like to sit in rickety armchairs around the big belly stove which heats the place, gnaw on the stems of their pipes, and talk about him. As a businessman, Bill was anachronous; he hated banks, cash registers, bookkeeping, and salesmen. He would count out the money four or five times and hand it to the driver in a paper bag. He understood ale; he knew how to draw it and how to keep it, and his bar pipes were always clean. In warm weather he made a practice of chilling the mugs in a tub of ice; even though a customer nursed an ale a long time, the chilled earthenware mug kept it cool.

The beef patty was juicy and decently large, while the onions and tomatoes tasted very fresh. The fries were also piping hot when I received them and deliciously crispy. The only downside in my opinion was that the cheese on the cheeseburger wasn't melted on the patty.

History of New York City

You’ll also find a signed copy of Frank McCourt’s best-seller Angela’s Ashes (A gift from the author after his Tom Snyder television interview which took place in the Old Ale House). Save time—automatically create your print menu with one click. The Health Department said when McSorley corrects the issues, it can ask for re-opening inspection. The department also said if McSorley's could have corrected the problem at the time the violations were discovered, it could have stayed open. "My wife and I feel we're the custodians of McSorley's, just keeping a watchful eye over the place. Our job is to make sure those swinging doors remain open. "I've traveled the world, I know every bar in this city, and there's nothing like this. It's a real special place," he said.

In 2011, New York City passed a law forbidding bars and restaurants from keeping cats. Minnie was forced out and, five years later, the Department of Health closed McSorley’s for four days while they resolved a rodent problem. Perhaps the most famous artifacts are the wishbones dangling from a gas lamp above the bar. After finishing a free meal at the bar, soldiers departing to serve in WWI left their wishbones—from turkeys, chickens, and one duck—intending to collect them upon their safe return. In 2011, a city health inspector insisted that the wishbones, encased in years of dust, be cleaned. McSorley’s has all the hallmarks of a classic tourist attraction, but Buggy says it’s the regulars who really make the place special.

The sawdust was put on the floor to absorb the spit along with any beer spills. The sawdust made it easier to clean the ground as well as to provide a smooth surface on which boxes could be moved. According to the Business Insider, “During World War I, McSorley’s began a tradition of giving troops heading off to war a turkey dinner and, of course, pints of ale.

Brewed in the tradition of the historic walls of McSorley’s Old Ale House. It took 116 years, the pressure of public opinion and ultimately the authority of a court order for McSorley’s to surrender. By the mid 1970s, McSorley’s allowed woman inside the bar at 15 E. Ah, but the owners did not completely forgo tradition, women would wait until 1986 to get their own restroom.

Such treatment did not annoy customers but made them snicker; they thought he was funny. In fact, despite Bill’s bad disposition, many customers were fond of him. They had known him since they were young men together and had grown accustomed to his quirks. They even took a wry sort of pride in him, and when they said he was the gloomiest, or the stingiest, man in the Western Hemisphere there was boastfulness in their voices; the more eccentric he became, the more they respected him.

To the amazement of the old-timers, a strong friendship grew up between him and Bill, who was a Tammany Democrat and an utter reactionary; no one was ever able to figure out the basis of the friendship. Bill called the anarchist Hippo and would let him have credit up to two dollars; other customers were not allowed to charge so much as a nickel cigar. Charles Francis Murphy, the Tammany boss, occasionally dropped in, and once Bill told Havel he was going to speak a good word to the boss for him.

Historians credit the Cooper Union Address as the turning point in Lincoln’s campaign. It helped him vault over his rival Stephen A. Douglas to secure the nomination as the Republican presidential candidate. After nearly two centuries of operation, the bar has compiled its own canon of secrets. Now, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, I’m going to share of few of my favorites with you.

I'm not a huge beer drinker, but even that seemed pretty inexpensive to me. Plenty of famous people have walked through its doors, like Teddy Roosevelt, Woody Guthrie, John Lennon, Babe Ruth, Hunter S. Thompson, and Harry Houdini. President Abraham Lincoln is rumored to have paid McSorley's a visit, and E.E. McSorley’s is known as a place for good political conversation. The bar is a significant part of East Village history since its founding and has been shaped by American political discourse over time.

A true playground of the wilderness, Yukon features an extensive network of waterways, all backdropped by sprawling mountains. A 65-mile drive from Skagway, this lush coastal landscape, giving way to the rugged wild, is worth the ride. This fearsomely named facility is actually a site for rescued brown bears who were abandoned as cubs. While they’re not in their natural habitat, the bears here get plenty of playtime, and it’s well worth seeing them have fun with their furry pals.

If you're all about basking in the hot sun and relaxing on pristine beaches, explore the highlights of French Polynesia on one of Norwegian Spirit's exciting South Pacific cruises in 2022. Norwegian's popular Tahiti cruises set sail from Papeete and whisk you away on an unforgettable experience across the South Pacific. So called because of the colour, this blue-hued body of water is a real sight to see. It’s a 75-mile drive from Skagway, but for a trip less travelled, it’s perfect for letting your inner explorer break free for the day.

There’s gold in them there Juneau hills – or at least there was back in the day. Away from the prospectors of the past, Alaska’s capital is more about breath-taking glaciers and stunning views of its surrounding water and mountains. Summer is the perfect time for an Alaskan adventure with average temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The later summer months are great for those hoping to encounter wildlife, like moose, elk and caribou.

When is the Best Time to Cruise the Caribbean?

best time of year to cruise

Earlier in the month brings a lull to the islands as hurricane season has ended, though by the end of the month expect higher prices and more crowds. Because fall weather in the Caribbean is unpredictable, you'll find some of the best cruise deals of the year. As the end of November transitions to the holidays, though, Caribbean cruise prices begin to increase again.

When to cruise to Australia and New Zealand for the best weather

In comparison, a 14-night cruise in April 2024 is currently priced at $1,481 per person. Like all cruise destinations, shoulder season is the best time to sail for those looking to save money. Some of the cheapest fares are found in October and April when school is in session. Because of this, the spring or fall can be a wonderful time to cruise these regions of Europe. Temperatures are not nearly as warm as in the summer, making it a perfect time to sightsee in cities like Rome and Paris.

Are the seas rough on an Alaskan cruise?

While the cruise line's internal pricing logic isn't publicly known, anecdotally, there isn't any reason a price would be less on a certain day. The reality is a cruise ship is priced differently, and waiting to book is usually a mistake because of how the industry works. It's understandable why you might think there's a special or better time to book a cruise, because in other forms of travel there are inside scoops on when is the best time to book.

Western Caribbean Cruise Tips: Ports, Attractions, Weather

If you are an angler, there is nothing like hooking and reeling in a King. With an average size of 24 to 36 inches and weighing pounds, you’ll finally have a true fishing story worth telling. If you are in port, you’ll get to see how Alaskans take advantage of the Midnight Sun with locals out biking, hiking, and fishing at all hours of the night. Packing-wise, you’ll still want to bring a raincoat, but you can probably leave your winter coat home if you are cruising in June. Rainfall slows down a bit in June, with about 13 days of the month having some precipitation.

best time of year to cruise

Royal Caribbean’s itineraries to these destinations are currently being offered only during the peak summer months. The cruise season in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific runs from late October to April each year, coinciding with summer in the southern hemisphere. The most popular time of year for these cruises is in December and January, as these months coincide with school holidays. If you prefer childless cruising during the holidays, you can choose an adults-only cruise line like Viking. Once you reach July, you are at the very peak of the Caribbean’s wet season, which means you can expect high temperatures, plenty of rain, and humidity levels that can be uncomfortable.

The Best Time Of The Year To Cruise The Mediterranean

For more mild weather and less crowds than during the busy summer season, aim for a Mediterranean voyage in early May or September. Alaska, northern Europe, and Bermuda are all relatively limited for the best times to cruise, as are European river cruises. If these more limited destinations are your dream cruise itineraries, the best time to take a cruise will be when those ports of call are most available.

best time of year to cruise

However, if the line sees a certain cabin category on a specific ship failing to sell as expected, it could drop rates halfway into the sale period. Within a given cruise sale's promotional period, I've seen cabin prices fluctuate daily and I've seen them stay the same for a week. It all depends on how many cabins a cruise line has allocated for a specific fare class and whether those rooms happen to sell out or not. Everyone wants to know the cheapest day to book travel — as if fares drop like clockwork on Wednesday morning and rise with the sun on Thursday.

The peak summer season in Australia offers the perfect temperatures for swimming, snorkeling, and exploring the region’s breathtaking beaches and world-renowned cities. Like Australia, New Zealand is also best visited during the summer months. Short cruises to Ensenada and Catalina Island are best during the summer months, when temperatures are in the mid-80s with sunny skies. During the winter, these more northerly ports can see temperatures in the 50s and 60s. The Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Greek Isles are popular throughout the entire cruise season, but summer can bring very warm temperatures. Unlike on a Caribbean cruise, you will likely spend less time at the beach and more time sightseeing in busy cities while cruising Europe.

During this time, the weather is warm and the days are long, allowing you to take advantage of all the outdoor activities the state has to offer. The loss of daylight does mean you could see the Aurora Borealis while cruising to Alaska in late August. The best time to see the Northern Lights is between late August and April, typically peaking in March. June is a smart choice for cruisers who don’t want to travel during peak season but want more opportunities. While prices in the early season are generally less expensive, your experience during a May cruise will look different from during the high season in July and August.

As any seasoned traveler knows, you'll often find lower rates or free add-ons as the departure date approaches and the cruise line works to fill the ship. Sometimes you may be forced to choose between the cheapest possible fare and one that offers a greater total value, given the included perks. Knowing when cruise lines will likely run promotions will help you strategize, but sales can pop up anytime — and not every promotion offers the cheapest fares. Regardless of when you're booking a cruise, you'll want to know if the fare you're paying for your vacation at sea is a cheap deal, average or overpriced.

You might find a cheap cruise deal or a fare packed with extras (like complimentary beverage packages, free kids fares or reduced deposits). I'd love to give you a magic date to circle in red on your calendar, so you'd know for sure that was the best time to book a cruise. The truth is there's no one best day, but knowing a few things about how cruise lines price cabins and when they tend to run promotions will help you identify high-value deals.

What time of year you're looking to sail depends on if you want to soak up the coastal sun or save a little money and avoid the crowds in the process. The best time to visit Canada and New England is highly subjective based on what your goal is in going there. If you want the warmest, sunniest weather to explore quaint coastal towns and cities on the northern Atlantic seaboard, July and August are your best bets.

The majority of these sailings visit Southeast Asian ports like Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Ho Chi Minh City. However, there are occasionally longer itineraries offered visiting ports in Japan, China, and the Philippines. While the Mexican Riviera is a year-round cruising destination, the region sees more diverse weather patterns compared to the Caribbean side of Mexico. Ports on Mexican Riviera itineraries are located in different climates and latitudes, so the best time to cruise to one port may not be the best time for another.

The good news is that there is no wrong time of year to sail for most cruises, such as those heading to the Caribbean or Bahamas. Knowing the best time to purchase your cruise is just one part of the puzzle. When you sail has a much bigger impact on what you pay than when you buy.

Cruise Essentials 50 Brilliant Things to Bring on a Cruise

items to bring on a cruise

The following items may be tempting to bring, but cruise lines either take care of these for you or they aren’t allowed on the ship. Well, when you cruise you have some unique situations that you don’t find on any other vacation. In this post we went over what to pack for a cruise, as well as over 60 useful cruise packing tips and hacks for new and experienced cruisers. I’ve also included some of the most useful cruise items that can make your cruise easier as well.

Roll clothing instead of folding

It would be a huge inconvenience if you woke up in the middle of the night with a headache and were unable to purchase a pain reliever before the onboard shops were closed. Instead, come prepared with your favorite motion sickness remedy, such as Bonine or Dramamine, an acupressure band, or scopolamine patches. A medical list is also helpful if you need medical attention while away from home and not in the United States.

Onboard Clutch

All those gadgets will need charging, too, so don’t forget those chargers. A power strip (preferably with built-in USB ports) can help ensure that the stateroom has more than enough juice to go around. On Celebrity’s Edge-series ships, you’ll find USB charging ports in your stateroom. A cruise vacation covers a lot of ground, which means you’ll need a lot of flexibility with your wardrobe, too. You can generally count on transitioning from daywear to smart casual on one or two nights per cruise and Evening Chic aboard the ship.

Take along a hanging shoe-storage bag, but not for shoes

For example, I'll dress up a top with a skirt or dress pants for dinner, then wear the same shirt with jeans in port the following day. Or, I'll bring one solid color dress and wear it twice, but with different accessories. We've listed 103 essentials you should always pack for any cruise vacation. Follow our cruise packing list to avoid packing mistakes and be prepared for anything on your next sailing.

You can never entirely predict the weather where you are cruising. Even on a Caribbean cruise, you could encounter an afternoon rain storm or chilly dining rooms and theaters on board. Prioritize clothing you can layer, such as sweaters, lightweight vests and zip-up hoodies.

Cruise Packing Tips & Hacks All Cruisers Need to Know

If you live within driving distance of your cruise terminal, you won’t have to worry about weight restrictions. In general, pack at least two outfits for each day—one for an excursion and one for dinner and late-night events on the ship. If possible, you can pack less by doing laundry on the ship on sea days.

First-time cruisers don't realize all the cruise ship cabin hacks they can employ to enhance their onboard accommodations. Usually, all you need to pack are a few key items from home. Like hotels, cruise ships typically provide soap and shampoo in your cabin. However, it's hard to know whether your hair will respond well to the onboard products or if you'll hate the scent.

Reusable Water Bottle and Coffee Mugs

items to bring on a cruise

A great way to keep your cruise cabin organized and store dirty clothes is to bring along a collapsible mesh laundry hamper. This one actually folds up super small so it’s easy and light to pack for your cruise. Recently some cruise lines, including Virgin Voyages, have banned single use plastic bottles. Having a thermal good quality water bottle is useful to have both on the cruise ship and in ports of call. The average cruise ship cabin is fairly small and has minimal storage space.

Pack night lights — even if you're not traveling with kids

These handy items take up little space in your suitcase, and they keep your smartphone, wallet and other items safe and dry on water-related shore excursions. When you’re ready to pack for your trip home, use them to store wet toothbrushes or bathing suits. Some cruise lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line, have a relaxed attitude toward dinner attire, and you can come as you are.

Some cruisers prefer towel bands to clips, as they’re easier to pack and take up less room. I love these, as they are adjustable and have a convenient clip cruisers are loving. Very important – Cruise lines don’t allow you to bring a regular surge-protected power bar from home (they will confiscate). It’s very important to have a non-surge protected one that is “cruise approved”. This belt comes in a ton of colors and sits flat against your body with your shirt over it.

The ship is so breezy and towels would never stay put for me. If you are headed to Alaska, your packing list has many similarities, but will be a little different. Specifically, it includes more cool weather gear, including warm socks, hat, and gloves. You can take these beach towels down to the pool and even bring them with you off the ship.

There are a lot of things many people wouldn’t think to pack that can be extremely useful. That’s because cruising is different from any other vacation. Most other places you aren’t on a moving vessel for a week at a time — miles away from the nearest store. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information.

THE 5 BEST Celebrity Cruises to Around the World with Prices 2024 & 2025 on Cruise Critic

The Sky Lounge, with its bank of windows, is perfect for wildlife viewing in Alaska and scenic cruising anywhere else. The Lawn, with its private Alcoves for rent, is a draw when the ship is in warm climates and two pools, indoor and outdoor, mean that you can swim, no matter what the weather. Nature is a theme on Solstice, with its large tree anchoring one of its atriums, a live plant wall in its Solarium pool and of course, the real grass that makes up the Lawn Club on the top deck.

The ship's 32 AquaClass Spa Suites might be the most coveted cabins on the ship, as passengers booked in AquaClass and AquaClass Spa Suites receive complimentary access to the ship's lovely Persian Garden thermal suite. They also receive complimentary access to Blu, which serves up healthier "spa cuisine." I don't know but I went down to guest services when directed by our cabin steward after I didn't have them in our stateroom the final night. I can't imagine not getting luggage tags in your cabin on the last day!

Infinite Verandas are a Highlight of Celebrity Apex Cabins

Would love to see a comparison or link here to your upcoming cruises. We'd shy away from booking a balcony cabin with an obstructed view on Deck 6, however, as the lifeboats/tenders dominate your field of vision (and inhibit good picture taking). We also heard that forward cabins were especially susceptible to noise from the foghorn on an Alaska itinerary. Holding 2,850 guests at double occupancy, Celebrity Solstice flourishes wherever it is deployed, be that Australia, Asia or Alaska.

Night South Korea To Japan Cruise

While there is plenty for everyone to enjoy on Celebrity Summit, suite passengers will find many more services that cater to them. The Retreat Lounge, for instance, offers concierge service, complimentary drinks and entertainment throughout the day. All the way up on Deck 12, the Retreat Sundeck provides suite passengers with their own sunbathing sanctuary, surrounded by unobstructed ocean views. All of these spaces give cruisers staying in Sky Suites and above a feeling of exclusivity and the ability to enjoy suite perks in private spaces outside of their cabin.

I'm glad they don't stuff a hard copy statement on our door anymore. I think most of us don't want a bunch of paper to just throw away. Ride Bobsled Jamaica as fast as you can then cool off in the infinity pool overlooking the harbor and the ship. Celebrity Solstice broke new ground when it debuted in 2008, and while several sister ships have undergone what the line calls "Revolutionized" status, this vessel has not. That means that it lacks some areas and amenities that are now standard on the line. The ships have a robust program for kids, a lot of it centered on edutainment.

Maybe, I’ve just never experienced that in 15+ cruises on multiple cruise lines. Main dining has also gone downhill, with slow service, limited choices and smaller portions. When I was especially hungry, I’d often feel tempted to order multiple appetizers or mains, but this would mean spending hours in the dining room waiting for our waiter to meander over at his leisure. We found a nice price on the Summit 11/27 sailing to Key West, Bimini and Nassau (5 nts). While we have been to Key West and Nassau more times than we can count, we wanted to give Celebrity a try so the itinerary wasn't important and those aren't part of this mini-review.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Unlike some cruise ships, Celebrity Solstice and the vessels in its class that came after it -- Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Reflection -- have more than one atrium area. With all these changes, there's a good chance past Celebrity cruisers, expecting the quiet sophistication that they've come to know and love from the line, are not going to be thrilled.

Perhaps, but much will depend on our experiences on some of the other ships we'll be trying over the course of the next year. If we do choose Celebrity again, it is likely to be on an expedition sailing to the Galapagos. On three of the days, the Solarium was very, very noisy as workers used hammers to chip away rust near the pool/hot tub stairs and repaint. They had that area closed entirely (the pool/hot tubs, not the Solarium itself) for a good part of one of our days.

How much does it cost to go on Celebrity Reflection?

Boarding in Miami was relatively speedy although for the first time ever (cruising since the early 1970's and married for 30+ years) the check-in attendant believed we needed a marriage certificate. After I showed her the website for Celebrity's document requirements on my phone, she checked with her supervisor who quickly corrected her and apologized to us for the delay in boarding. They also took new photos instead of using those we uploaded (Royal Caribbean did the same in late 2021). On our Alaska sailing, we saw multiple variations of multi-generational cruising -- adult children with parents in their 80s; grandparents with grandkids; babies and teens as part of a large family reunion.

There was a time when Celebrity had some of the best mainstream cruise dining. We wouldn’t say that's the case now, as other lines have made more forward-thinking cuisine investments. Celebrity has stated publicly that it's looking to reduce food waste and promote efficiencies; the result of that, unfortunately, is that diners have fewer options than they did a few years ago. Formal nights (held once on cruises six nights or shorter, twice on longer itineraries) have been replaced by Evening Chic, where anything from cocktail attire to formal wear is appropriate. The dress code on a Celebrity cruise also extends to the theater on those evenings. This is the 5th celebrity cruise I have taken, and the second time on the Edge.

The Lido Deck on 14 is where you'll find both of Celebrity Solstice's pools. The covered Solarium is adults only, most of the day, and provides ample and airy seating, even when the weather isn't great. The outdoor pool is a nice size, with seating alcoves nearby (unlike on Edge-class ships, these primo lounges are free) and also facing outward. The extensive entertainment from Broadway-style theater to circus shows, comedy, magic, dance and live music is all available without charge.

The Oceanview Café is likewise airy, although it can be difficult at peak hours to find a seat. The AquaSpa Café and Mast Grill round out the ship's complimentary options, although these venues do close at dinner. Suite guests have dining privileges at Luminae, with a menu boasting dishes from celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, while Aqua class passengers eat at Blu.

Unlocking Dental Health Secrets: Discoveries After 15 Years of Dental Neglect

"Haven't been to the dentist in 15 years" refers to a situation where an individual has neglected regular dental checkups and cleanings for an extended period. This behavior can have significant implications for oral health and overall well-being.

Regular dental visits are essential for maintaining a healthy mouth. Dentists can detect and treat cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems early on, when they are easier to manage. Neglecting dental care can lead to more severe issues, such as tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss.

Dental Numbness Relief: Fast & Effective Solutions Revealed

Dental Numbness Relief: Fast & Effective Solutions Revealed

After dental procedures involving local anesthesia, numbness of the lips, tongue, cheeks, or gums is common. This numbness is temporary and typically resolves within a few hours. However, there are several methods to help alleviate the discomfort and speed up the recovery process.

Rinsing the mouth with warm salt water can help reduce swelling and inflammation. Gently massaging the numb area can also promote circulation and aid in the absorption of the anesthetic. Applying a cold compress or ice pack to the outside of the affected area can help numb the nerves and reduce discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can also be effective in reducing pain and inflammation.
