The Sky Lounge, with its bank of windows, is perfect for wildlife viewing in Alaska and scenic cruising anywhere else. The Lawn, with its private Alcoves for rent, is a draw when the ship is in warm climates and two pools, indoor and outdoor, mean that you can swim, no matter what the weather. Nature is a theme on Solstice, with its large tree anchoring one of its atriums, a live plant wall in its Solarium pool and of course, the real grass that makes up the Lawn Club on the top deck.

The ship's 32 AquaClass Spa Suites might be the most coveted cabins on the ship, as passengers booked in AquaClass and AquaClass Spa Suites receive complimentary access to the ship's lovely Persian Garden thermal suite. They also receive complimentary access to Blu, which serves up healthier "spa cuisine." I don't know but I went down to guest services when directed by our cabin steward after I didn't have them in our stateroom the final night. I can't imagine not getting luggage tags in your cabin on the last day!

Would love to see a comparison or link here to your upcoming cruises. We'd shy away from booking a balcony cabin with an obstructed view on Deck 6, however, as the lifeboats/tenders dominate your field of vision (and inhibit good picture taking). We also heard that forward cabins were especially susceptible to noise from the foghorn on an Alaska itinerary. Holding 2,850 guests at double occupancy, Celebrity Solstice flourishes wherever it is deployed, be that Australia, Asia or Alaska.

While there is plenty for everyone to enjoy on Celebrity Summit, suite passengers will find many more services that cater to them. The Retreat Lounge, for instance, offers concierge service, complimentary drinks and entertainment throughout the day. All the way up on Deck 12, the Retreat Sundeck provides suite passengers with their own sunbathing sanctuary, surrounded by unobstructed ocean views. All of these spaces give cruisers staying in Sky Suites and above a feeling of exclusivity and the ability to enjoy suite perks in private spaces outside of their cabin.

I'm glad they don't stuff a hard copy statement on our door anymore. I think most of us don't want a bunch of paper to just throw away. Ride Bobsled Jamaica as fast as you can then cool off in the infinity pool overlooking the harbor and the ship. Celebrity Solstice broke new ground when it debuted in 2008, and while several sister ships have undergone what the line calls "Revolutionized" status, this vessel has not. That means that it lacks some areas and amenities that are now standard on the line. The ships have a robust program for kids, a lot of it centered on edutainment.

Maybe, I’ve just never experienced that in 15+ cruises on multiple cruise lines. Main dining has also gone downhill, with slow service, limited choices and smaller portions. When I was especially hungry, I’d often feel tempted to order multiple appetizers or mains, but this would mean spending hours in the dining room waiting for our waiter to meander over at his leisure. We found a nice price on the Summit 11/27 sailing to Key West, Bimini and Nassau (5 nts). While we have been to Key West and Nassau more times than we can count, we wanted to give Celebrity a try so the itinerary wasn't important and those aren't part of this mini-review.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Unlike some cruise ships, Celebrity Solstice and the vessels in its class that came after it -- Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Reflection -- have more than one atrium area. With all these changes, there's a good chance past Celebrity cruisers, expecting the quiet sophistication that they've come to know and love from the line, are not going to be thrilled.

Perhaps, but much will depend on our experiences on some of the other ships we'll be trying over the course of the next year. If we do choose Celebrity again, it is likely to be on an expedition sailing to the Galapagos. On three of the days, the Solarium was very, very noisy as workers used hammers to chip away rust near the pool/hot tub stairs and repaint. They had that area closed entirely (the pool/hot tubs, not the Solarium itself) for a good part of one of our days.

How much does it cost to go on Celebrity Reflection?

Boarding in Miami was relatively speedy although for the first time ever (cruising since the early 1970's and married for 30+ years) the check-in attendant believed we needed a marriage certificate. After I showed her the website for Celebrity's document requirements on my phone, she checked with her supervisor who quickly corrected her and apologized to us for the delay in boarding. They also took new photos instead of using those we uploaded (Royal Caribbean did the same in late 2021). On our Alaska sailing, we saw multiple variations of multi-generational cruising -- adult children with parents in their 80s; grandparents with grandkids; babies and teens as part of a large family reunion.

There was a time when Celebrity had some of the best mainstream cruise dining. We wouldn’t say that's the case now, as other lines have made more forward-thinking cuisine investments. Celebrity has stated publicly that it's looking to reduce food waste and promote efficiencies; the result of that, unfortunately, is that diners have fewer options than they did a few years ago. Formal nights (held once on cruises six nights or shorter, twice on longer itineraries) have been replaced by Evening Chic, where anything from cocktail attire to formal wear is appropriate. The dress code on a Celebrity cruise also extends to the theater on those evenings. This is the 5th celebrity cruise I have taken, and the second time on the Edge.

The Lido Deck on 14 is where you'll find both of Celebrity Solstice's pools. The covered Solarium is adults only, most of the day, and provides ample and airy seating, even when the weather isn't great. The outdoor pool is a nice size, with seating alcoves nearby (unlike on Edge-class ships, these primo lounges are free) and also facing outward. The extensive entertainment from Broadway-style theater to circus shows, comedy, magic, dance and live music is all available without charge.

The Oceanview Café is likewise airy, although it can be difficult at peak hours to find a seat. The AquaSpa Café and Mast Grill round out the ship's complimentary options, although these venues do close at dinner. Suite guests have dining privileges at Luminae, with a menu boasting dishes from celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, while Aqua class passengers eat at Blu.
